| That's what I think it works out to, assuming all those little kernels will make it past the deck plates and then actually get shelled off of the spongy cobs where they are supposed to. I really hope there are still some fields around here that can make 150, and there are some that will be under 50. Just like the corn belt as a whole, it's impossible to get a handle on where all the other stuff falls in between. The disappointing thing about the field these ears come from is that even though it is lighter soil it caught a couple of narrow band rains pretty well and looked super, right up until the soil moisture ran out. Then it was like flipping a switch. Didn't try to cannibalize the stalks or anything, the ears fell down and game over. |
