| If corn is driving up beef prices, then why are feeder calves so high? Corn is part of the equation, but there are many other factors. If corn was truly too high for the cattle feeder, calf prices would drop back below historic levels.
If corn was $4, feeder prices would just be higher. Would beef prices drop significantly? Other than a little heavier slaughter weights, would it have much effect? The calf crop in the US has been steadily shrinking since the mid-90's. $1.45 corn didn't stimulate greater production.
