It wasn't until you mentioned protein and N in your recent post did I make a connection to an old conversation I had with a soil lab owner long ago about the math that ties crude protein in a grain sample to amount of N in that sample.

Could you elaborate on that and is there much relationship to yield and/or do you need to factor in yield and protein value together?  Does the protein monitor have to be calibrated against the lab? etc.?
