Hard to give solid advice without at least some sketch of the plan.

I imagine there's an elevation change between the garage and the house, so some steps will be inside this breezeway. Will you use the existing or build new? Recommend steps at right angle to the entry door to provide good cross traffic access (typical breezeway will have doors on all 4 sides).

HOWEVER, don't forget that this is probably your major access for big/bulky items (appliances, furniture, you-on-a-stretcher) so think about maybe a removeable railing straight out the door of the house. Speaking of which, this might be a good time to install a new entry door if you need a better one.

Think about what's gonna happen when you get a heavy snow and wind. How will the snow drift between the house and garage?

How will you do the landscaping? I'm thinking about room enough to turn your mower, etc. Might make things easier if the garage was at an angle to the house and be more architecturally pleasing in the bargain. Maybe things you've already considered...
