I went out yesterday to check on my garden and see if the tomatoes had decided to ripen yet.... I got excited when I saw three tomatoes out of about 500 showing some red... I checked the first one and half the bottom was gone.. eaten away... The second one the caterpillar was still eating on it.... I killed him... The third I picked and brought in to finish ripening.... I dusted all the plants with Ortho Max bug defense for gardens.... With this heat I need to water and wonder if once I water is the protection of the Ortho max gone?? Is there something else I can do to discourage caterpillars in the garden??? With strawberries we used to sink bowls of beer in the ground between the rows and the slugs would fall in and drown... I hate to come this far and lose tomatoes to these nasty little slime balls.... Thanks for any help and suggestions... Betsy |
