Subject: Nebraska may limit more irrigation

To this point irrigation has been shut off only for surface water (rivers and creeks), but it's possible producers near those rivers pulling ground water could be shut off next. This situation is being examined as in essence pulling ground water from too near a river is pulling water from it.

This situation is influenced by a court decision a few years back where Kansas sued Nebraska for pulling too much water from rivers that flow into Kansas from Nebraska.
