Driftless SW Wisconsin

The outer 6" of a 5 ft wide x 6 ft diameter bale has 31% of the hay in that bale. If that 1500 lb bale cost $60, that outer 6" is almost $20 worth of hay. If wrapping it saves most of that $20/bale it is well worth it, in my opinion.

A hay shed may be worth it but I don't have all that many cattle nor a good spot to build a hay shed that sits empty for half the year. I am still trying to figure out what my max stocking rate should be. Once I figure that out I will know how many bales I need to store and if a shed makes economic sense vs this wrapping.

I will take another look at hay storage in a few years. For now wrapping and used pallets will get me by.
