By any metric Local, State, and National Debt are at such levels that they cannot be paid back. A serious currency devaluation is the only way that we can manage that amount of debt. What surprises me about the interview is that the only effective option the fed has is a revaluation of the price of gold. Makes sense since the feds QE programs are not having the desired affect.
