I'm in full agreement that farmers in these areas need to be planting the corn into a broadleaf stubble (peas, beans, sunflower, alfalfa, flax) to facilitate warming and early growth. Also, some of the crop-height differences shown in various photos posted in recent wks of tilled vs no-till may be of no consequence -- in other words, the crop plants may be at a very similar growth stage, but with less stretch between the nodes on the no-till. Finally, what it looks like now often doesn't correlate with final yields. No-till crops can often be slower and still win the race if it gets dry at the end of the season. But I still think corn into wheat stubble is a problem in ND or any of the Canadian provinces. |
