Blue Earth, MN
I think the reason why this turned into a strip till thread is because up here it doesn't matter what row cleaners one has on their planter to no till plant. Clearing the residue 0.5 seconds prior to placing the seed in the ground doesn't work with our cooler climate and thus colder soils. That first 24 hours of temperature the kernel is subjected too is extremely important. If I can move the residue 24 hours ahead of the planter to create a darker zone that will use radiant energy of the sun to warm, it makes all the difference.

Here is a few pics showing the height difference in corn that got planted into the strip and corn that was essentially no tilled. This is in soybean ground. I had some pics showing the same thing in corn ground but I can't find them. Basically, I didn't get the planter lined up on the strips before I sat it down coming off the end rows. 40' planter. The taller corn the left is same variety planted in the strips on the end rows.
