It's pretty hard to beat alfalfa. Orchardgrass and timothy are good, but need nitrogen (and you would be real lucky to get more than one crop of either this year).
The alternative is to go to an annual crop like oats followed by sorghum/sudan. Or follow oats with peas/triticale. Or go with wheat interseeded with red clover.
