Soutwest Ks.
I would tend to agree with tmrand. Corn takes a lot of moisture to grow and the roots can grow as deep as the corn plant is tall. We find in SW KS where we irrigate our corn that if you neglect to keep your sprinkler nozzles unplugged for awhile you will start seeing the drouth rings. Even after you unplug nozzles and water before the corn is up the next year you can see the same spots again as they still are a little drier then the rest of the field. If we have an extremely dry year and all the moisture the corn gets is from our irrigation systems we tend to see real uneven corn. Apparently the water pools and places it will penetrate and other places it runs to where the pool is. We see this even in our COC strip till fields with a tremendous amount of foliage left from last year.
