Subject: Why does corn on corn show drought stress before rotated?

Jefferson, SD
I've always noticed that coc shows stresses first but as dry as it is there is no question the coc fields are in the worst shape. Is it the extra decaying organic matter in the ground that causes it? Do the corn plants use more moisture due to additional pathogens they are dealing with? What is the science behind this issue?
One neighbor told me it was additional tillage done to bury last years corn stalks. Might have some impact however minimum or no-till fields of coc are in the same boat.

All the non-irrigated corn around here is in serious trouble if it doesn't rain in the next 3-5 days however the coc is already at permanent wilting in many fields and it's toast already.

.05" here thursday night, .2" early this morning.
