Pennyrile, West Ky. | My Dad now 94 was 18 in 1936, I can't count how many times he has told me of everyone in the community bringing their livestock to his Dads farm to drink from a spring that was still flowing cool water when most every other spring, pond, and well had run dry,,,and anytime he spoke of the 36 drought he also brought up the 37 flood which fell in Jan. or Feb.
Last year most of us in the Mississippi and Ohio valley experienced what was called a 100 year flood and now we are dealing with a 100 year drought,,,36 and 37 all over again,,,just in reverse....I am 55 and have seen several dry periods that produced disappointing yields, but never have we went into our driest part of the year, July, August with a 15 inch deficit in rainfall,,,,and we are now looking at triple digit heat to top it all off,,,,,,,,Dang,,,,wish I had went on out to do something instead of sitting down to check on A-talk,,,now I'm all depressed and won't want to do anything the rest of the day........John | |
