Iowa | It's actually too wide to be a soldier. The design guys will tell you not to use a bigger edge paver than the interior ones. Also, I would NEVER to a running (straight) bond line. You lose the advantage of INTERLOCK. A very nice first attempt but I would guess the lack of interlock will cause premature failure.
A soldier doesn't have to be perpendicular, but just an "edge" not tied into the interlocking design of the interior. So technically, since there is no interlock anywhere, it may be a soldier. But smaller ones are the accepted norn, as is some sort of interlock. Google "herringbone"or "muster-k" for examples of the best interlocking patterns--they will normally bridge a slightly settled base. A running bond like this one will allow each paver to settle on it's own and it will be "humpy and bumpy" if there is any flaw whatsoever in the base.
But light years ahead of many do-it-yourselfers, That's for sure! | |
