Subject: soybean seed trench smear

IL
Seeing what happened in my first yr of almost all notill beans, I am looking at what do better next yr. I am going to narrow rows from 30's, either drill or hiring a friend with 15s. Would love to not touch the ground this fall or spring, saving a trip and keeping the ground smoother, but "HERE" it can stay damp on top ( even tho dry below) and the seed trench wants to smear. My weakest beans were in those damp areas that the standard 7000 closers didn't close the trench well. Running a quick trip of something in fall may break that damp surface for spring, BUT , here are my probss

a coulter rig like a turbo till chops and makes a damp layer of stalks, instead of leaving them up in the air
an aerway leaves alot of holes that may give poor see placement later ( have used one)
a disc , don't want to, tho a neighbor uses one in the fall, then notills in the spring.

so......What are your favorable ways to overcome this. one plan, spiked closers on a JD 750. The friends splitter has cast wheels with no pressure, usually is later, and does ok. I am usually earlier.

thanks
