Central Nebraska | When in high school several of us guys caught a snapper that was about 18 inches long on a set line in the river. We wrestled it out with a few fish nets (that it destroyed). Not fully knowing what to do with it, we put it in the back of our German teachers old pickup truck and left a message on his door. He loved to hunt and fish and we hoped he would butcher it for us. The next day at school he asked what we did with the turtle...it wasn't in the truck. We thought he was joking but upon further inspection we found huge scratches in the the pickup bed where the turtle had clawed its way up the side and escaped. Gave me a whole lot of respect for them.
We are in the process of finishing up our new acreage and have a pond we are going to seal off and fill in the next few weeks. My wife is concerned about mosquitoes and kids.....I'm concerned about getting a large snapper in there that will eat our little house dog for supper. | |
