E.Central MN | The data collecting has been going on in one form or another long before the internet. Because more people do more searching, looking, and shopping online these days, it makes the data collecting easier(even though some of the techniques are very annoying). They say the marketing can be more targeted to specific groups of people instead of using the old junk mail spam marketing techniques of putting ads everywhere and hope that a fraction of the population will click on them. So more ad revenue might not mean more ads on everyone's computer. I don't use facebook, but who knows what the data collected on this site would be worth, lets hope it doesn't fall into the wrong hands.... | |
