Southern MN | Opportunities like that don't come around very often, if at all. Jump in with both feet and don't look back. If it doesn't work out, its a lot easier to get out of farming than to get into it.
As for advice, I would say buy only the equipment you can afford, rent the land. Don't expect to start where the brothers leave off, meaning you don't have the assets they have earned, you need to start with little and slowly work your way up. Work with the brothers to understand what they want out of the deal and from their tenant. Put together at least a 5 year plan, make it conservative (meaning low crop prices) and then discuss it with someone who can tell you if its realistic or not. Have fun and enjoy it. | |
