2x4's are cheap. Use them, and use lots. To add another row or two of 2x4's isn't going to add another $50 to the cost, and might hold it down in a wind that would otherwise tear it away. The tin is the most expensive part, don't skimp on what your attaching it to. I'd probably use 5 or six rows of 2x4's. Tin that is screwed down is a long term roof, and an investment. Do it right.
