East central Iowa

I have a building that needs the roof replaced.  I decided to just tin it.  The roof on each side is 11' X 24'.  I think 4 2X2's or 4 2X4's stripped across the 24' would be sufficient to screw the tin to.  My only question is cutting a 2X4 in half makes it really only 1.6875 wide, or 1 11/16ths.

The rafters are spaced 24" on center.
