I have clients doing similar things (planting corn into a moderately heavy live stand of vetch).  The trick is to have your crystal ball shined up enough so you guess correctly about the exact date to kill the vetch, etc.  Keep the vetch alive too long, and it looks silly if the season turns off dry (like this year), but it looks brilliant on those years that are soggy at planting, or afterwards!
