I buried the wire around the perimeter of our farmstead for invisible fence for our dogs, a little bit of traing and a battery now and then and we never have to worry about our 2 dogs(a Golden Retriever and a Yellow Lab) chasing cars or wandering off.

Money and time well spent, in my opinion. I would recommend it. Pet Safe is one brand, ours is Radio Fence(which I think turned into PetSafe).
