Guymon, OK | All good reasons posted above, but, like billybob said, attitude is a big part of it. I had some of the best teachers in the world, and even they couldn't teach the kids who simply didn't want to learn. Also, if kids aren't being taught well at school, the ones who do want to learn are pretty good at finding answers on their own; the internet has made self-education very easy and productive.
I've said it before, and I'm sure I'll say it again - it isn't cool to be smart in America, and until that attitude changes we will continue to be the laughingstock of the rest of the world. | |
