Subject: Schools are bad

East central Iowa

Well that was the message yesterday from WOC's Jim Fisher.  He has an afternoon talk program and he made some good points about teachers and education in general.

Basically teachers never strike to improve schools they just strike to get more money and kids are being herded through school without learning the basics of reading, writing and math.

He made the point that Retired Brig. Gens. Douglas Pierce and Mark Zirkelbach have said  19% of Iowa’s high school graduates who try to join the United States Army are turned down because they have flunked the military’s basic exam for math, literacy and problem solving.

I waited for one question to be asked that never was, why if the schools are so bad do other kids going to the same schools do so well at college and in life?

They all go to the same school.
