Beresford SD | This seems to come up every 6 months or so, typically from someone who recently found the forum and has experience with other forums.
It was tried here some years ago. What a mess. One time on line I would see a post, next time it was elsewhere and had to be hunted for, difficult to find. Very thankful when trial was over.
Just looked, the machinery page has 100 new threads in 24 hours. With the new-reply-send-post-to-top system, some of those 100 threads would get bumped to page 2 or 3 or 4 before anyone had a chance to read them, and the poster would cry about lack of participation with his post.
The new-reply-send-post-to-top system would tend to hold some posts way past when most readers were interested. Two people would get to bickering about something and everybody else had to keep seeing that thread at the top. If the two people wanted to do that fine, but do not make the rest of us look at them on the prime real estate for the board.
There are a few menu options that let you do what you want to do without making everybody else do it to.
