S.C. Wisconsin | Just one comment as I suspect there are some young dairy farmers stating they will be staying with outdated systems to keep their cost down. I say just remember that someday you will have to buy the farm and the outdated facilities will not cut the mustard. Its' happened over an over in our neighborhood as they just kept slogging along until they were 50 and either had to quit or wait for Dad to die because there was not enough cash flow to purchase the farm. I had to expand from 70 to 350 cows for the simple reason I had to buy the farm from my Dad as that was his retirement and I expect the same from my son. I told him the other day he might have to expand from 500 to 1000 if he plans on buying the farm from me. Not trying to degrade anyone but after 40+ years of dairy farming I am just giving some of the younger fellows food for thought. Good luck dairying! | |
