Hope it keeps draining, The penicillin won't hurt to keep it up. You can give it sub cutaneous at larger dose and probably spread out to every 2 days or so. All you're hoping to do with that is keep it healing from the inside out.

When I was in school, a couple of us students got to work on a few week old calf with a navel infection. We anesthetized it and went digging to try to "get it all". Followed it all the way into the liver and had to quit without getting to the end of the infected tissue. Calf didn't make it.

Yours sounds like it has a chance.
