NOT any type of accurate predicter what offspring do in their BORN environment.
Half ( actually 75% ) of an animal's "thrive" ability truely comes from the dam and their enviro.
Heck a high milk bull can easily throw hiefers that milk just right anywhere.
( and there's some high milks that do not too )
Natural "grocery" reaction to the enviro has more to do with true milk production vs any theoretic / synthetic epd number.
Have seen registered herds brought to the SW from No Dak, and the lines which "on paper" should have done great, did in fact end up "washing" ALL those cows out within 2 years.
( interestingly the hiefer calves out of the afore wash out dams turned out to be really good long term cows, thus environment workout in tough country is perhaps more Learned vs genetic )
AND the lines which "on paper" would be thought to maybe do just ok ( or might wash out ) did not. cant disagree with any of your findings, i to have seen it in one gen.
LONG term good cows and EVERY darn one of em 2.
Several loads, all registered angus cows.
Pretty interesting as things turned out.
Just more proof that cows are perhaps smarter than people I guess.
