Subject: Total Maternal EPD

Southern Saskatchewan
When looking at bulls for EPDs I like to see the total maternal number. Does anyone out there use this value. I am told in the U.S. it is not used. We figure it out as 1/2 the WW plus Milk. Opinions? How are bull sales going this year. Looks like sales in South Sask are $1000-1100 over last years average. Decent Angus ranch bulls are averaging $4700. They are not fancy just good bulls. I need 3 more and looking at a sale this week from a reputable breeder and scared bulls are going to average over $5000. Ouch! When the prices are good I guess thats what we get. For the commercial breeder what number do you guys like to stop at for a decent bull-where do you think it goes from expensive to "He was crazy to spend that much"?
