$8/100 hogs in '98 was the end for a lot of them. Also, you're talking 20+ yrs there. Several guys around here still had some part of their operation out on dirt and after that long, either the kid grew up and left, or enough was enough (mud). We've had disease troubles on dirt lots be a big issue as well. One neighbor said in '98, a guy use to be able to count on the hogs paying the mortgage, but not anymore.
