Subject: Funeral/Burial costs

Midwest
What does an average funeral cost? Just an average funeral.

Are there ways to cheapen the cost? Can the family cut out the funeral home and do most of the things themselves if the body was cremated?

Anyone ever bought a casket from a casket store? I think you can order one from Walmart online also.

Why couldnt we still hold a visitation/funeral service/celebration of live, at the church?

Make the bulletins for the serice, buy the thank you cards.

We can buy our own urn.

We could make the obituary and send to the local papers.

We can bury the ashes at the cemetery ourselves.

As a farmer, I'm so used to wearing so many hats, so why should this be any different?

Just seems to me the funerl homes are making a KILLING, when families are at a vulnerable time and not thinking clearly. They charge for EVERYTHING!

What say you?

As for me, and when my times comes, roll me off in a ditch and throw some brush, a little used oil and a couple tires on me and light me on fire. The End!
