just a tish NE of central ND | This is better than what I had before, but........ I bought a grizzly with the 1 hp motor. It is OK for up to 5/8th inch.. Can get by up to an inch bit if you have to . But anything over 5/8ths inch it isn't rigid enough and that DARN drive system where the belt slips with bigger bits is a pain......There is no way one could even use the power that the 1/// hp .///// I mean 1 .5 hp motor delivers because of slippage .I have threatened to go and get a old blacksmith shop type of drill with a power feed , except they take up so much room that I don't have .I know it is over your budget,(mine too) but a good used milling machine would be what I will look for when I get to replacing this.
Others have suggested to me before to take a look at Ellis(spell) drilling machines.
Edit The Grizzly is a 1.5 hp / 20 inch floor machine. 12 speeds..... #4 morris taper option and a chuck.
