Subject: RE: What have you found plugging a tile?

We were installing laterals on some 10" tile this fall. It was old cement tile and the first 400' to the ditch was like new- no silt at all. Then we ran into about an 1 1/2 of silt at our next connection. The silt kept getting shallower as we went up slope, so we came back and did another lateral in the other direction with a new hole about where the silt started. I reached down the outlet side and the tile was clear- reached up the inlet side and found more silt so was going to dig out as far as I could reach and I ended up pulling out a skeleton of some critter. Hopefully it will wash clean not that it is gone.
After that I went to another outlet and was cleaning grass away from the rusted out end of the pipe when I saw a little black nose poke curiously from the hole. Then I saw a white stripe going back from between the eyes behind that little black nose. He ran up the tile, I ran up the ditch bank. Yes, critter guard maintenance is important.
