Michigan - Saginaw County
Ahay - your dad is a smart man...
There will be family farming in 15 years but most will be joining in small companies to own bigger and faster machinery, get volume discounts on seed, etc...
This is not all bad... You will still be running your farm but you will be coordinating the field work, purchases and so on with the rest of the group/partners/company/LLC/whatever... A major bonus will be that owners are the hired help of the company so the guy running the machine has a personal interest in not getting stuck, not overloading and breaking down, as repairs come out of his pocket also... And certainly a half dozen guys with semis and trailers and running a couple of big planters hitting your field in it's turn are going to get you planted one heck of a lot faster than just you and the wife with a 6 row planter... The group can afford good storage bins with dryers and take advantage of better prices in the winter... It can afford big semis for moving grain to market... And so on...
