Subject: RE: How does everyone figure machinery costs?

SC Nebraska
I appreciate you posting that. I am always curious what peoples breakdown is for cost/ac. Seems like everyone throws around $xxx/ac but I am sometimes skeptical if they really know or if that is a wag.

The types of costs vary so much from region to region.

Here, we have no one has a need to apply lime. Drying is extremely rare. Trucking can vary depending on distance of haul. We only go 12-20 miles roundtrip typically to destination. Machinery costs can vary so much depending on total acres and type of equipment.

On those links you posted, I take it those are averages for the area? One thing that jumped out at me is nonland interest of $40 to $50/ac. WOW! We are around $6-8/ac. I realize that is based off farms with much higher operating costs than here. I was under the impression that everyone was cash rich limiting the amount needing to be borrowed, with all the reports of people paying cash for land purchases.
