central - east central Minnesota - | Think about it .. . . I think the Hefty boys are smoking something. If you could leave the stalks/residue, like the old snaping ear corn pickers, that would be ideal. Stalks standing up with most all the leaves and husk on the stalk . . . Can see the dirt easily between the rows - makes for better warm up in spring. Don't worry about decompasision of the stalks, they will get broken down by harvest - especially if you roll them after planting. This idea of chopping heads and running them 2-3ft below the ear . . . well, there was butt shelling this season, for the guys that had them. I still believe in running the head, just low enough to get all the ear and have no butt shelling or ear bounce. I perfer to get all my corn, then have shelling corn become secondary and choping stalks with a combine as primary operations ~ JMO |
