Not sure I grasp what this really means: Organic matter is lost through soil erosion and burned off or oxidized through tillage.

I should have a test back from a dairy today that falls into the same scenario as in the article. I walked this ground this spring when the corn was 4" tall, this fall when I took the sample and then after the owner plowed it like he has every year for the last ? years. We are looking at a rotation for once next year. To me this soil is dead even with all the manure that has been applied over the years. Slowly maybe I can change him to park the plow and look at V-ripper or Chisel but the thought of not mixing the manure enough will burn his crop. He seen my winter wheat crop growing now that was planted into 75 ton?/acre manure that was only disced and chiseled in.
