Subject: Re: water softeners

We use to have our's settup so that only the hot water was softened. Have since changed it so that all house water goes thru the softner except what is used by the toilets. Was told by the guy that pumps our septic tank that soft water is not good for septic tanks, says it breaks down the bacteria in the tank.

We have a Culligan, A Mark IV I believe. Culligan dealer recommended using "solar salt" in it. I buy it at the local "Big R" store or at "Sams". A lot cheaper than what Culligan wants for theirs. Guy that installed it recommended buying the salt at "Big R"
