Yes, that is what I have read in the news since then also. That email was sent on Friday, Nov. 4 and they must have been mistakenly assuming that futures accounts were covered?. I assumed that also, isn't SIPC printed on the bottom of MF Global Account statements? It is difficult for me to understand how our accounts apparently do not had any safeguards at all.
