I know just where you are coming from wanting to go to corn the first year. I have several acres coming into the rotation from the CRP program and would love to go corn the first year from a revenue standpoint. At this point I plan on doing a fall burndown on the acreage once the hay crop is removed. I will let several unknown factors determine how it is handled come spring. I would prefer to just notill the corn into the sod, but I have seen several do this with marginal results. The last ground I broke that was broke out from CRP we just disked the tar out of it to get it prepared and it raised some of the best corn of the year. Soybeans would sure be an easier route the first year, but in this operation corn is highly preferred to soybeans. What is the preferred method for nitrogen placement in a no-till corn environment? I am not a fan of broadcasting granular nitrogen at all. Is there a no-till NH3 applicator that wont break the bank?
