western wi | if you take 5 cuttings a year in wi,your stand will be dead in about 2-3 years. take 3-4 tops. variety has some to do with size, but my question is, is it that there are alot of stems in the dry hay or are the stems bigger or thicker than normal? if it's to stemmy after it's baled, just rake it a little wetter, than let it dry before baling. we bought some hay from our neighbor e few years back, he crimped it before raking. the livestock wouldn't eat it, all stems, no leaves. if your problem is thicker than normal stems, cut it earlier. | |
