Subject: RE: Starter fertilizer in furrow for wheat question

Ottawa Valley, Eastern Ontario
The guys I deal with use a Alpine 6-24-6 @ 5 gals/acre. Alpine makes a good product that is 80% orthophosphate and 20% poly phosphosphate. There is cheaper products on the market but I think you only get what you pay for.As for micros wheat does respond to manganese but I would confirm that with a soil test. Manganese tends to get tied up fairly easily if soil applied so if you need it I would try to apply it foliar. Why do you feel you need to cut the blend with water? I have not heard that plugging was a problem. Do you have high residue? I think that liquid starter for wheat is a no-brainer. It should pay for itself quite easily.
