Subject: Re: Starter fertilizer in furrow for wheat question

westks states about the right rate on N to apply in furrow. Work in the mid- to late-70s in Montana using dry fertilizers developed the recommendation of not exceeding 15 lbs of nitrogen and potassium (N and K2O) combined in the furrow with the seed to prevent salt problems with germination. Phosphorus could be applied at much higher rates as it does not have as much of a salt effect.
