we have to irrigate 90% of our soybeans because they are not a good fit for our dryland environment. anyway we have learned that you dont want to water to early. expecially in your enviro where you get 2 times the rain we do. we have even had luck with stressing the beans from lack of water to keep them short and then pour the water to them at flowering. but that isnt really an option for you since you guys dont have the dry spells with no rain to get them to mine all the water out of the profile.
