central - east central Minnesota -

gostate - 8/25/2011 23:58 How wide is the point on your mole knife? Ours is 1.75" wide which seems plenty in heavy soils. I plan to run between 6 & 8 inches deep, where ever I can pull it at 6 mph. When strip tilling corn stalks I plan to leave the stalks as long as possible and run between the old rows. Less residue to compete with on the ground & less tire damage is my reasoning. Thanks for your input guys. Love this forum.

If you run the strip tiller between the old roads - wouldn't your tractor (and strip tiller / planter) be running on the old stalks ? Causing stubble damage ?
Better plan on some stalk stomers of some sort .  . .. .
The bennifit of strip tillling is not haveing to farm the residue . . . . nothing needed for the stalks. Leaving them as intacted and long as possible helps reduce stubble damage and residue management.
