Southeast Colorado | I didn't realize that those folks in that dry cotton growing area were always continuous cropping. I had assumed there was either a fallow period somewhat like the 1/3,1/3,1/3 system you are talking about. They must normally get a lot more moisture than us because we don't continuous crop dryland anything with success here. I wonder how much their yields would improve if they would start putting a fallow system in that would allow for a rotational crop and more residue? I suppose if there is always more profit in cotton it would make it hard to look at rotation but if you could greatly improve your yields and not have to deal with blowing dirt it might be a fair trade off. | |
