if you have very hot weather when they are setting it can really hurt your yeild if normally a plant sets 10-15 potatoes per plant i have seen if weather i extremely hot it can cause them to only set very few if plant is stressed and temperatures are to high. if you have a good set but during the bulking stage weather is to hot or to dry that can cause a big yield loss also. you really need lots of water during the bulking stage or the plant can not keep up when the tubers are trying to size up. as far as beattles you can apply admire on the seed piece and it will give you season long control for potato beattles. if you dont apply before planting provado is another chemical that will kill beattles sprayed over the top and usually gives you about a 14 day residual to control colorado potato beattles and it does work if you spray provado in the morning within 4 hours they will be falling to the ground and dying. as far as yield spuds like lots of potash and nitrogen you could pull petiole samples through out the year and send them in and find out what you are lacking in nutrient. also are you rotating your potato ground it is not good to plant spuds in the same spot year after year they like a three to four year rotation similar to sugar beets they pull alot from the soil. good luck any other questions just ask
