In tighter ground, I'd agree, but this is sandier loam, so it's a bit of a different animal. And usually there are cracks that are quite apparent, but this year (for whatever reason, I am stumped) the ground just hasn't fractured like it does during "normal" (whatever that is, hard to tell these days) dry periods. I am a bit concerned that without the fracturing we usually see, when we do get our big downpour (it is coming...sometime), most of the rainfall is going to immediately run off. It's a bit of a quandry as far as what to do.

Thanks for all the input guys, you've given me a great deal more to consider, and it's much appreciated.
