Your right...wet/dry cycles have the same affect as freeze /thaw cycles. As for Gregs question. Ground might be pretty hard to pull a ripper but would have to agree you can't lose moisture that isn't there. And youi might end this drought with a big rain event. Seems to happen that way sometimes.
